The struggle is real for pro-choice American women this voting season, knowing that the outcome of the election will directly impact their bodily autonomy. Historically, this is not the first time that the two major parties of the United States have taken opposing stances on women’s rights. From the anti-suffragist movement of the early 20th century to the anti-feminist movement of the 1970s, Republicans and Democrats have stood on opposite sides of equal rights. However, in 2022, things got worse. The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization subsequently overturned Roe v. Wade, a nearly 50-year precedent that protected abortion rights. Along with it went the fundamental human rights for women across the nation.
